Garden Tomatoes

SAFE Community Garden!

This year the SAFE community and some dedicated Master Gardeners in Hamilton have come together to create a fantastic new community garden! Each garden bed has been (or will be)  planted from seed and lovingly nurtured by women in the SAFE community. The Master Gardeners have been tremendous in teaching and supporting our budding gardeners!

With our four garden beds we have created some fun themes. Our pizza bed contains all the veggies and herbs we could want for creating scrumptious pizzas come harvest time. Our salsa bed will spice up our community dinners and the herb bed will kick up our cooking.

This year we are so grateful to the Bitterroot Secret Garden tour for sponsoring our garden! Their tour is sold out! We love to see so many people interested in gardening. To find out more and to mark your calendars for next year check out their facebook page at: https://www.facebook.com/BitterrootSecretGardenTour/

We are really excited about this new venture in gardening and a thousand thanks to our supporters for making this happen! Garden meetings are Tuesday evening at 5pm. If you are a gardener or want to get involved click here and let us know!

Training Announcement

Training Announcement: Dr. David Adams

Dr. David Adams. Training Announcement

The Ravalli County Coalition Against Domestic and Sexual Violence is pleased to announce David Adams, Ed.D. as the keynote speaker for the 2015 Report to the Community.  Dr. Adams is co-founder and co-director of Emerge, which was established in 1977 as the first counseling program in the nation for men who abuse women.  He has led batterer intervention groups for over 36 years and is an internationally recognized expert on men who abuse their partners.  Dr. Adams has trained social service and criminal justice professionals in 45 states and 16 countries, currently serves as a Commissioner on the Massachusetts Governor’s Council on Sexual and Domestic Violence and is the Director of the National Domestic Violence Risk Assessment and Management Training Project.  He has published numerous articles and book chapters about abusers, writes a popular blog on The Huffington Post, and is the author of “Why Do They Kill? Men Who Murder Their Intimate Partners.”

Following the Report to the Community on October 16, 2015 from 2:00-4:00 pm, Dr. Adams will present “Profiling Abusers and Killers: Common Traits and Differences”.  Part one of the workshop, “Understanding Those Who Abuse Their Intimate Partners: Myths vs. Realities”, will focus on five common myths about abusers and how these impede our ability to recognize them and hold them accountable for their actions.  The profile of abusers will include their common deficits as parents and methods for assessing abuse.  Part two, “Profiling Killers: Descriptions of Life Histories, Risk Factors and Motivations Posed by Men Who Kill Their Intimate Partners” will provide an overview of research about intimate partner homicides, risk factors for lethality, and describe different types of killers in terms of their motivations.

The workshop is intended for community members interested in learning more about characteristics of men who abuse their partners and for professionals working with domestic violence victims and offenders.  Continuing Legal Education Credit and POST Credit will be available.

Current Event: White Ribbon Hootenanny

White Ribbon Volunteer Hootenanny 2015

Join us for the first-ever White Ribbon Volunteer Hootenanny!

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month! In these parts, that means White Ribbon Week – an annual public awareness campaign that asks our community to wear a white ribbon and take a stand against domestic violence. Each year, more than 5,000 people in Ravalli County participate in this campaign. This year, we’d like to see that grow to 10,000 people – nearly a quarter of our county’s population (and roughly the number who have been directly impacted by domestic violence in our community in their lives)! Help us spread a powerful message of hope for survivors and dedication to ending domestic violence. We need community volunteers to distribute posters and ribbon cards, decorate downtowns, talk to community groups, and get the word out! If you are excited about ending domestic violence, join us on the 8th to sign up for a delivery or other simple tasks, enjoy some yummy food, and be a part of our White Ribbon team. Also, if you belong to or are close to an organization, business or group that would like white ribbons, please let us know! Send your ideas for expanding the White Ribbon Campaign to the e-mail address below. You are what makes our community great!

Thursday, October 8th (in preparation for White Ribbon Week, October 16 to 23) Any time between 3 and 5pm at SAFE Office, 150 Morningstar Way (off Fairgrounds Road), Hamilton
